How do I change outgoing server settings when it won't let me; previous conversations (above me) are not helping.

Host changed server settings. I changed incoming server setting just fine, but Thunderbird is not allowing me to change outgoing server setting. Nothing I have read has helped. Much of it is over my head. Thank you for any help (simple) would be appreciated. Thank you. Susan

Do you see an Edit button? If not, you are looking in the wrong place.

Follow Matt's instructions and scroll to the bottom of the account list on the left side and select Outgoing Server (SMTP)

open your incoming server settings. At the bottom the the account list is outgoing server (SMTP) click on it and edit whatever it is you want to edit. Note there may well be more than one outgoing server listed. there obviously should be one for each account you have in Thunderbird.

It won't allow me to edit. I read as much as I could about this on here, some of which was way over my head. Sorry. Please advise.

You, like most others, find the Outgoing Server (SMTP) choice that already is showing on the account page. It is confusing that they decided to name it the exact thing.

That location is for assigning existing SMTP servers to accounts.

You have to go to the one at the bottom of the account list to add, edit or delete a SMTP server.

Got it! Thank you so much! Susan
