How can I display the custom fields in the columns of Thunderbird Contacts?

I've imported a contact list CSV file to create a new address book in Thunderbird. It was alot of trouble!!! Seriously, Thunderbird makes things SO CONFUSING! I finally had to modify the column headings in my CSV file to match what Thunderbird wanted in order to get it to import.

Nevertheless, When I open the address book, the columns it displays across the top do not show all the fields, specifically the custom fields I added when importing. The "column order" feature you can click is also confusing as it doesn't even list all the standard fields. (??) I need to be able to sort the contacts in this address book by the custom field I added.

Please don't tell me to install the add-on "More Functions For Address Book" https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html https://freeshell.de/~kaosmos/morefunctionsforAB-TB3-1.0b6.xpi

I tried that and Firefox will NOT allow it to be installed because "it has not been verified". Searching in Thunderbird Add-Ons for "More Functions For Address Book" shows no results no matter how I spell it, with or without spaces.

I'm seriously disgusted with how complicated Thunderbird wants to makes things. And having to use "Add-Ons" just to get basic functions only makes things more frustrating.

Of course it fails in Firefox. It is a Thunderbird add on. No idea where you dug up that link. Try this one. https://freeshell.de/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html

Download the file someplace you can find it. Open the add on tab in THUNDERBIRD and click Extensions. Click the gear icon and select Install from file.

Thunderbird is based on addons. If that does not work for you, use something else.

You can't add arbitrary columns to Thunderbird's Address Book. Use the import tool to make the best compromise match between what you have and what you want.
