Backing up to a json or html file will save all my bookmarks except for the mobile ones I sync between my laptop and my phone. The jsonlz4 file in my profile folder also does not save mobile bookmarks. Sync by itself is usually enough to preserve all my bookmarks, but I made the mistake of installing FF ESR alongside regular FF which screwed everything up; it would have been nice to have had my complete bookmarks backed up at that point, so I could have restored all of them.

Btw, my laptop browser is spoofed: I'm using FF 60.0.1 on Linux Mint; I'm syncing my laptop with my android phone (FF 60.0.1 also).

You can sync between different computer systems and different Firefox versions. However; only bookmarks, history and passwords can be shared between different systems and different Firefox versions.

Did the mobile bookmarks get to the other systems, or not? How many mobiles are you talking about?

Note that you should always use a separate profile folder for each Firefox version you use and never use the same profile with different Firefox versions.

Profile files may not be downgrade compatible and at some point the favicons moved to a separate SQLite database (favicons.sqlite) and were no longer stored in places.sqlite.

If you have a Firefox version that shows the mobile bookmarks folder then try a copy and paste to a bookmarks folder to make them behave like a regular bookmark.
