Hi folks Would really like Thunderbird to play a sound when emails come in but it isn't! Have checked my Windows 10 settings and sound is set to on. When I go to the General tab in Thunderbird the "Play a sound" option is on. It is set to the default sound and when I hit the Play button a sound plays. I'm running 52.9.1 (32 bit) release.

There are a couple of places to check: open Windows Settings, type sounds in the Search box, select 'Change system sounds' to open the Sound control panel, and see if New Mail Notification is set to play a sound (not 'None') (see attached picture). Then, open Settings, System, Notifications & actions, Get notifications from these senders, click on Mozilla Thunderbird and see if sounds are enabled (see 2nd picture).
