I like to see the complete header when I view messages, but don't wish to include the header as text when I forward them, as it only confuses the recipients. How can I have the one without the other? I don't want to have to edit each forwarded message to strip out the header text.

As I understand it, you want View/Headers set to All by default, but set to Normal when you reply or forward. I don't know of a way to do this automatically, but you could do it by pressing H:

You can use TotalMessage to configure exactly which headers you want for Forward, Compose, Print (each separately, and each configurable for Mail, News, Feeds type messages). And also for the message pane headers.

Note this is an extension for sophisticated users and may be more heavy than what you may need.
