Is there a fix for Firefox version 56.02 which would allow me to recover the usage of all my extensions and add-ons, INCLUDING Reminderfox?

I kept Firefox version 56.02 (on both my Win 10 laptop & Win 7 desktop) so I could still use Reminderfox, one of the features which made me prefer Firefox to other browsers. With the current issues over Mozilla's blocking of extensions/add-ons, and the only fix I'm aware of involving upgrading to the latest Firefox version, it doesn't seem there is any way forward that would allow me to continue with Firefox + Reminderfox.

Hello mcmlxiii,

Would you please take a look at this :

https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/bkspmk/addons_fix_for_5602_older/

Would that work for you  ?

It's not recommended, though - the best thing to do (for
many reasons) is to update to the latest Firefox version .....

Tried this, but couldn't get it to work. However, my granddaughter was able to show me how to do it correctly.

Many thanks.

Hi mcmlxiii, it's crazy that an expired certificate could cause this problem, but that happened and this is where we are.

Regarding fixes, this is the status:

  • Firefox 66 - fixed in 66.0.5
  • Firefox 61-65 - use hotfix from this past weekend
  • Firefox 60 Extended Support Release - fixed in 60.6.3esr
  • Firefox 52-60 - hotfix expected shortly

All of these updates and hotfixes do the same thing: install a new certificate and then trigger a re-verification to mark the properly signed extensions as valid again.

The *unofficial* and *unsupported* workarounds can do the same thing in a different way, but they are more complicated to implement.

There is a Legacy system extension coming for Firefox 52-60.

I don't know what about:config settings could prevent installing this extension.
