I have recently installed Thunderbird. It is generally synchronizing well with my Gmail account. However, I have discovered one small issue. When I empty the Gmail spam folder in Thunderbird, and then log in to Gmail webmail, the spam folder still contains the messages that were deleted.

All of my other folders synchronize correctly. Could you let me know if there is a way to empty the Gmail spam folder in Thunderbird and have the emptying show up in Gmail itself?

That fixes it! I also found that selecting all the spam messages with Ctrl-A then selecting delete works, as opposed to just selecting "Empty Junk". So, to clarify, either Empty Junk, followed by Compact OR selecting all spam messages with Ctrl-A then selecting delete will result in the spam messages being deleted from the Gmail server.
