Despite changing composition settings for replies to be above quote
So since moving to a new PC a few weeks back I'm struggling to solve what seems to be a simple issue with Thunderbird. Namely, when I go to reply the reply starts below the previous message. Before you just comment a link to the post from a while back where someone has screenshotted the composition settings, I've already changed the setting to 'start my reply above the quote' and it still does the reply below.
-I have ticked to automatically quote the original message when replying. -Start reply above quote is selected. -and currently signature is selected below reply and above quote.
Have I missed something simple here?
Thank you for your time.

Open Config. editor (Options/General in 78 or Options/Advanced/General in 68), type reply in the search, and look at the value of mail.identity.idN.reply_on_top, where N = 1,2,3... depending on the account. The value should be 1 to have the reply above the quote, or 0 (zero) to have it below the quote. What are your current values? Right-click, Modify, if the value isn't 1.

That did the job perfectly, thank you.
I'm guessing it was because I had two email addresses in the same account, it had ID1 with a value of 1 but ID2 had a value of 0. Everytime I changed it in the settings it was just changing ID1.
TBird 78.4.0 on Win 10.
Same problem but mail.identity.idN.reply_on_top, is already set to 1.
Follow-up:
3 lines up, this was 0, reset to 1, same problem.
mail.identity.default.reply_on_top;1
Hmm unsure with yours, all of your IDs are set to 1 so it should be on top. I wonder if sfhowes has the answer.
Who/what is sfhowes?
He's the one who posted the answer above.
OIC...
Try safe mode (Help/Restart with add-ons disabled), in case there's an add-on, especially one involving signatures, causing the preference to be overridden. Try normal mode without signatures, if you have them (they are defined for each account).
OK, had tried turning (all 3) add-ons off individually with no change.
Several restarts later the new version of Signature Switch seems to be the culprit.
Will all disabled, the quote is now correct, cursor at top and colour = blue.
Thanks for your help.
