Volumes are on, Volume Mixer is 100 all Playing the "Default system sound for new mail" is alright, it plays the notification but its too quiet I used an .mp3 file and nothing happens, not a single sound. Help

The custom sound has to be a wav file. An mp3 can be converted to a wav file, or, more complex, a wav header can be added to an mp3. The first method is easier, and there are several free programs to do it.
