Good Morning! I installed Thunderbird Beta version 85, which in its release says "Address book: Added support for OAuth2 CardDAV providers".

As Google also reported that it implemented CardDav, and then I understood that when setting up my google account on Thunderbird Beta version 85, it would also import my contacts, in addition to email messages.

Did I get it wrong, or do I have to execute a specific command / procedure for importing contacts from my google account?

I used the gContactSync extension before, but it stopped working after version 73.

Please ask for help, to import my contacts. Thank you very much, Luciano

In TB 85beta Address Book, File/New/CardDAV Address book, enter this URL:

https://www.googleapis.com/carddav/v1/principals/username@gmail.com/lists/default/

Check that cookies are allowed in Options/Privacy & Security to enable the OAuth authentication. An 'Address Book' with Google contacts will be added to Address Book.

I don't think it's that simple. You'd need to create a new CardDAV Address Book, and you need a CardDAV URL for your Google Contacts. I don't know whether Google offer that kind of access. In any case, Google is your friend.

Thank you very much sfhowes!! It worked really well. But he took the main contacts (I think the most used ones, but not all my markers with others). Most likely it must be because the URL you sent ends in "... lists / default /" It should work with the lists / all URL, or something like that. But this functionality is very practical, already native to Thunderbird and as long as your email provider also has it (CardDAV). A big hug, Luciano

Do you have to do anything in your google account for this to work? JC

JC, no, I didn't do any special configuration. But I think that since the option of Accessing by less secure Third Party Applications was already configured in my google account, I didn't have to change it. This adjustment may be necessary if it is not enabled. It was just that.

The built-in CardDAV in 85 doesn't seem to sync as well for Google, compared to Card Book or TbSync, but those add-ons are currently only for TB 78. There are some other URLs listed in the Resources section here that might work better. By the time of the next TB release this summer, native CardDAV should be improved.
