I got an email with a .docx attachment, and when clicked attachment I can view in FF.

Downloaded, and clicking file and open in FF ends in endless loop asking to open, if FF selected. Seems like mime type not being detected and processed from FF directly but does from webmail.

Same action with a PDF, image files works great.

I guess clicking attachment, and getting preview within FF actually surprised me being a DOCX. Went back to email, and using gmail appears doc is opened via google docs. So I guess not a FF issues, but a word doc viewer would be nice.

Hmm, I think your email site showed you a preview, either in PDF format or some other format, because Firefox does not have a built-in DOCX viewer. You can open the file in an external editor such as LibreOffice or OpenOffice.

Yes I can open in external viewer(always), but not downloaded file in FF again.

Firefox doesn't support .docx files internally, so you won't be able to open this file type in a Firefox tab. You will have to open this file in an external application that can handle this file.
