I am running out of room on Mac HD and want to keep my email Profile on an external drive. I have followed every instruction I can find and it still doesn't work. I change the ini. I change the account settings. I work offline. I have uninstalled, reinstalled and tried everything. Either it says it can't find the profile or it puts it back into the HD Library after I delete it, despite all the locations pointing to the external /Volume/Library/Thunderbird/Profile/(etc).

I have tried installing and using the Portable version; but, it is too outdated and won't install. (32-bit).

Any suggestions or does anyone have an undated version of Thunderbird that is Portable or can be installed on an external drive? I have a lot of emails and other email clients tend to crash!

Did you try the method of copying the profile to the external HD, then creating a new profile from Help/Troubleshooting, about:profiles, and in the new profile dialog clicking Choose... and browsing to the folder copied to the HD?
