In a prior set of questions I saw the recommendation to use Unicode UTF-8 to avoid problems. I am on the current TBird and am at the default settings of Outgoing Mail = Unicode UTF-8, but Incoming Mail = Western ISO-8859-1.

My problem seems to only occur when I reply to certain emails so I am thinking that the incoming mail code is adding some hash, although it does not show up at my end, only in my reply.

Should both be set at Unicode UTF-8? And if so, why is the default not set that way?

I have since tried Unicode for both outgoing and incoming and still with certain of my correspondents have the odd characters showing up, in particular this series -

This seems to be something that started happening in the past few weeks. I don't recall when the last TB update came down the pike, but I am currently running 78.13.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
