Thunderbird doing a SEARCH (looking for word "puppy" in an account, searching titles, text, bodies, etc.

i send myself a TEST (subject) mail with the body including "this is a puppy". i do a SEARCH in my account. I find the email

I THEN move the email to a SUBFOLDER named zz_temp (in same account). I go back to main account inbox I do a SEARCH in account, for "puppy" NO RESULTS I click on the subfolder, and search - NO results I MOVE the email back to the main inbox i do a search NO RESULTS

I do a search, from the MENU option (edit - find - search messages) NO RESULTS

I have been tearing my hair out to see why the SEARCH aspect was not finding critical keywords, etc, and I NOW SEE that MOVING the messages seems to be removing them from the index, and the index is NOT re-including them when they GET moved.

Any assistance appreciated.

REBUILDING the INDEX is not an option, because i am actively moving messages all the time to subfolders, etc, and the index should note if a message gets moved, etc.

HELPPPPP !! thanks nick

but does rebuilding fix the issue? You might not be able to do it often, but it might simply be a bad index and rebuilding it will fix the integrity so it reads to the end permanently.

it is hit or miss, i had STARTED rebuilding it, and then i'd occasionally find things on searches, but it was only in the past couple days that i found about the MOVING files. AND, since i do sort and organize and move files a lot, rebuilding this index is not a practical solution. something is going on in thunderbird where it is either not RE-INDEXING a file, upon a move, or losing pointers to a file after a move. that is a bug or deficiency, which would be beneficial if corrected, in my personal opinion. again, thanks for reply
