why is FireFox 95 opening multiple windows on startup with Windows 10, Roboform, & Norton 360?
why is FireFox 95 opening multiple windows on startup with Windows 10, Roboform, & Norton 360? FireFox is set to open a new tab, not new windows, so I do not know why it is doing this? I see lots of people asking this question, but there is no guidance online. What is up? This is causing FireFox to use way too much resources, and slows the computer.

So, you are not talking about Firefox windows, you were talking about the Windows Task Manager. I had a thought this was the case.
More than one process is normal for the current Firefox. http://www.ghacks.net/2016/07/22/multi-process-firefox/
Multi-process Firefox is codenamed "e10s". https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/multiprocess

Sometimes I get the same thing after Norton does an update. Just close them.
I closed and reopened FireFox just now and have 21 FireFox windows open. I don't have time to close these individually so there has to be a better solution.
I just opened Chrome and got 12 copies of it immediately, so I will call Norton tomorrow as it appears they are causing the problem.
Please keep us posted.
Norton accessed my computer remotely, and shut off Norton 360. Then they opened FireFox and Chrome and still got multiple pages opening, so Norton said they were not causing it. Maybe Windows? I will follow up with computer manufacturer to see if they can fix the problem.
I shut Roboform and Norton off and still had problem with multiple windows. I currently have 25 Firefox pages open using 1.8 GB of memory which slows computer. I had Microsoft Tier 1 Support Team did a remote access my computer 3 times and they reinstalled Windows 10, then did a Windows In Place Upgrade which caused my computer to freeze upon restarting from a complete shutdown. I could only get computer to start by doing a "hard shut down" holding in power button. Finally on Christmas day, another Microsoft tech was able to fix the starting problem. The Windows 10 reinstall caused me to lose access to Nvidia GeForce Experience so I could not update drivers. A remove and reinstall by a Microsoft tech fixed that issue. After all that, I still have the problem of Edge, Chrome and FireFox 95 all opening excess windows on startup and even more excess windows as I browse internet. I did not find anyone at Microsoft that was aware of issue or knew how to fix it. I am convinced it is a Windows issue, especially since you told me your computer does this sometimes after a Windows Update. I would appreciate any help.
What is in all of the windows/tabs?
Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

I opened FireFox 95.0.2 in troubleshoot mode and Task Manger showed I had 6 pages or windows open in FireFox. I have not refreshed FireFox because I reset Chrome and it still opened multiple windows on startup. In Task Manger, these excess windows under "Properties" all show FireFox.exe. I have cleaned all history except cookies as I have cleared cookies before and it did not help, but wasted lots of time having to relog into all sites I use. I shut off hardware acceleration too and it loads msn.com much faster but still opens multiple pages/windows.
And the rest of my question/instructions?
I have tried all the solutions you and Microsoft suggested to fix Edge and FireFox 95 and the problem is no better and maybe worse as Task Manager says I have 13 FireFox windows open after just restarting computer. Edge showed 13 windows open too. Can you reach a high level tech at Microsoft to see if they have found a solution to this problem? My computer has been scanned by Malwarebytes, Norton 360, Chrome for software, MSERT.exe by Microsoft, so I am sure it is not a virus or other malware issue. I have Win 10 version 21H2 (OS Build 19044.1415). I just deleted the prefetch files and will let you know if it helped.
I suggested; Start your Computer in safe mode Have you done this?
I just started Windows in safe mode and on a blank page, FireFox 95 opened 6 windows and immediately switched to 12 windows. It did exactly the same thing when I restarted in regular mode. Deleting prefetch files made no difference. I have also started FireFox in troubleshoot mode and it made no difference. Any further ideas? Should I contact Microsoft again or maybe my computer manufacturer or ?
What is in all those windows? Links? ads? . . . .
They are all Firefox.exe files created on 12/19/21. I tried to copy and paste from Task Manger, Properties, and it would not work. Any idea why they all have same date? I have a note in my schedule to buy Bitdefender 12/19/21, but it was removed days later by Bitdefender and I bought and installed Norton 360 Deluxe and Utilities from Amazon. Bitdefender would not allow me to access my sweepstakes sites. These extra Firefox.exe files use up memory and they total over 1 GB, sometimes up to 2 GB after surfing for awhile. Happy New Year! and thanks for trying to help.
Hello,
In order to better assist you with your issue please provide us with a screenshot. If you need help to create a screenshot, please see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?
Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the Browse... button below the Post your reply box. This will help us to visualize the problem.
Thank you!
Firefox screen shots do not work on Task Manager, so what can I take a screenshot of that would help? As I told you earlier, Copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) does not work on Task Manager pages either. By the way, the instructions for Firefox screenshots use a copy button which is not on my keyboard.
