I need more information. Are you referring to the font as you see it in compose window prior to forwarding, or the font as seen by recipient? Also, is the the font set under Preferences>General or under Preferences>Composition?

more options

I see it as mixed in a smaller font as indicated at the top of the page. I have my font choices set in both the General and the Composition tabs.

more options

Okay, I'm not sure what 'mixed in a smaller font as indicated at the top of the page' means. Can you post an image of this? Is the font incorrect only when you share a page from FF, or whenever you compose? Is your font selected in Composition tab other than 'Variable Width?'

more options

The setting in the Composition tab is Courier Large under HTML. I'm attaching a screen shot to show what I see on the composition; I wrote the first part using what it offered me, then how I wanted it to show. It only seems to do this when I'm forwarding a link from a browser, not when I start an e-mail from scratch or replying to someone else's e-mail.

more options

That's interesting. My guess - and it's just a guess - is that the insertion of the link is in HTML. look at the source HTML, as the screen shows 'variable width, not Courier Large. I'm wondering if FF, by giving the link in html, is overriding your preference. That would explain the difference. If so, it's not something TB can fix.

Thanks for the responses. I had come pretty much to that conclusion, but I had hoped to find a solution. Maybe some of the developers might have a suggestion--one can only hope. Thanks again for looking at my problem. Take care.

Since it shows your desired font but smaller, what you're seeing in compose window is your GENERAL setting whenever Variable Width is used. Try changing your general setting to a larger font size. This requires doing it TWICE, once with Latin and once with Other Writing Systems. Set both to the same font and the same font size. I feel rather strongly that will solve your problem.

more options

Thanks for the idea. I checked the "Language & Appearance" header, went to the Advanced and both the Latin and the Other Writing Systems were set for Courier 16. Is that what you meant?

more options

Yes, set the font to something larger to mirror whatever the size is with your HTML compositions. However, that solution only guarantees what YOU will see, not what recipient sees. My guess is the recipient will receive the message with no font specified, as that is what Variable Width does. So, my 'solution' may only be for your viewing, not the recipient. I should have remembered that, but it's been a long day. I do not see a quickie solution to convert Variable Width to Courier Large. Sorry.

more options

Thanks anyway. Get some rest. I appreciate your efforts.

Actually, I think it's solved, unless you want recipients to receive messages in CourierLarge. If your intent in setting composition tab to CourierLarge was for consistency on your view of messages and not that you wanted recipients to receive them in that font, I suggest you - update General setting with desired font size as I posted earlier and - change composition setting back to 'Variable Width' and medium (default) font size.

This will allow you to see Courier in a large font consistently and allow recipients of your messages to view in the font of their choice.

Actually, the sample I sent you was with your suggested changes all in place, so it doesn't allow me to see my desired form in composition. Thanks, anyway.

more options

Okay, I'll quit. But my suggestion only works if you set both Latin and Other Writing Systems to the larger font. I tested it specifically to your requirements. And it removes the need for your recipients to read your messages in your font choice. All the best.

Yes, I tried your solutions with no success. I really wish it would have worked. Thanks anyway for all the help.

I tested this query as well and desired results using the following:

Preferences > Composition HTML Style font: Variable Width size Medium

Set this because it allows the user to use a font and size that they prefer. Tested using 'Use Paragraph format instead of Body Text' and with it switched off - made no difference.

Preferences > General Language & Appearance Click on 'Advanced' Font's for 'Latin' Proportional : Sans Serif Size 16 Serif: Cambria Sans Serif: Courier New Monospace: Consolas Size 16 Minimum Font: Size 16

(Note: if 16 is too small then you can later change all font size to 18)

uncheck 'Allow messages to use other fonts' (I also tested with this option selected - made no difference)

Then set the same for: Fonts for : Other writing systems Proportional : Sans Serif Size 16 Serif: Cambria Sans Serif: Courier New Monospace: Consolas Size 16 Minimum Font: Size 16

Finally reselect: Fonts for 'Latin' (so it displays as default) click on OK

In Firefox Browser - File > Email link (or highlight the http text in address bar and select copy and paste into pre opened Write.) Thunderbird opens new Write message displaying link in desired format. This format is not hardcoded, so you will see it as you like, but it will not be enforced on the recipient. Save as draft and check draft - all ok

This method works for me.

Toad-Hall, thanks for expanding on what I was trying to communicate. He wants a larger font, and keeping to 16 is what seems to be causing his disappointment.

Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately, my machine is "toes up". I've got a new one on order and once it comes in, I'll try your ideas. My wife's laptop doesn't have the same setup on it (surprise!). I appreciate the suggestions.

OK, I'm back. I tried those things unsuccessfully. I am puzzled by the advice, though. Courier is a serif font and monospaced. Helvetica is proportional and sans serif, so the settings don't make sense to me. When I made them, the forwarded links came out in a small, sans serif font, the diametric opposite of what I was looking for. I've gone back to where it was, as it's closer than what I was looking for.
