Does Thunderbird support OAuth2 in Verizon. I note that smtp authentication is an available choice in TB for AOL accounts but not for Verizon when editing SMTP setup. I am running Windows 7 and Thunderbird 102.5.0 (32-bit).

App passwords seem to be no longer available so a work around then is needed. Is OAuth2 the way.

If you migrated your Verizon email account to AOL, then you should be able to use the AOL servers with OAuth2. If AOL are like Google, OAuth2 won't work on Windows 7. App passwords are still very much an option on AOL.

OAuth2 works for my AOL accounts. It does not work for SMTP server setup on Verizon. The verizon accounts are very old and contain Cherished email address not available on AOL. Yes, migrating accounts to AOL solves the problem and SMTP works ok. OAuth2 is not given as a choice in editing SMTP for a Verizon.net account. The same for another machine running Win10 and TB102.4.1(64bit).

Verizon retired its email service years ago, so I don't know what you mean by "OAuth2 is not given as a choice in editing SMTP for a Verizon.net account". Use the AOL SMTP server, which as you've confirmed, works with OAuth2 just fine.
