thunderbird 115.3.3 combined inbox keeps scrolling making it impossible to use. How do you disable automatic scrolling

Using version 115.3.3 vertical view, folder pane, message pane. running on a 4K monitor at almost full window size the combined inbox automatically scrolls when I am deleting messages and the messages I am working on move the top out of view. I then have to scroll back down to see the message. Then it will again auto scroll to the top out of view. This is making thunderbird useless as it is wasting my time scrolling endlessly to see my messages. How can I disable the scrolling on the inbox?

Does it help to disable hardware acceleration? Tools > Settings > type hardware in the search field
