When I open Firefox an alarm noise begins, how do I get rid of it (apart from muting the sound)
I close my machine every night. This morning when I opened Firefox and alarm noise began and is continuous. I tried Opera and Safari - no noise. I opened Firefox again and the noise was still there. I emptied the cache, looked for any changes to extensions - no change. I did not make any changes to Firefox yesterday apart from install a new printer (but the HP extension is greyed out and I can't change this).
This happened
Every time Firefox opened

Disabling the CoolPreviews addon will stop the sound.
No idea why CoolPreviews suddenly started causing the sound, though. Hopefully an update will fix it?
Google has the Pac Man game on their website. You can see it with Explorer but not Firefox. For some reason the sound comes through on Firefox and does not stop. You can turn off the Flash player just like Cool Preview and stop the noise. It will probably be turned off by Google late tonight as they change themes tomorrow.
So many people using the default homepage....Google's logo is Pacman...Just leave the page and it will stop.
I had the same problem with the noise and I just update CoolPreviews and the alarm stopped . :D
Thanks everyone - thats all been really helpful and useful.
Anthony2816 thanks for the suggestion to disable CoolPreviews. This took care of the problem. You are a genious. What a pain that was!!!!!!!!!
The update that CoolPreview put out today that Storiana mentioned is the definitive fix.
