When I go to a website and click a link to download a file, the only option I get is to save the file. I want to be able to run the file rather than save it.

Running a file directly from internet is not recommended and disabled in Firefox because it prevents your anti-virus software from checking the file and a poses serious security risk.

Saving a file to the desktop hardly adds much extra steps and you shouldn't run programs that easily.
