Try disabling or uninstalling the Ask toolbar and it should work again. This is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar following a security update in Firefox 3.6.13

pathway,

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."

If not, see this:

You may still be infected.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also try a clean reinstall in case some Firefox files got corrupted.

  • Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
  • Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
  • Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
  • It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

This 'right click search' is causing me problems, too. When I am looking for something I right click which gives me the opportunity to Google search for the item in question. The right click works but the new tab doesn't show. When I close the intial page I get the box telling me I am closing the tabs. This is only happening on FF4. I didn't have the problem on earlier builds.

Yup it was the ask toolbar for me... a tool that I never agreed to install on my computer... ask toolbar, pfft... seriously... when are they gonna learn that we don't want their cr*p. Pisses me off how they try to impose their HORRIBLY WRITTEN code on our systems through "freeware" that doesn't even work. If you can't handle the development heat, stay out of the platform...sheesh
