I have no URL bar, only a search engine bar. Where's the address bar?

I am looking for an address bar where you type in the URL or IP address, and are magically taken to that address (E.g. http/www.VOA.gov would take you that address)

The address bar also displays the current page that one is viewing.

What I have is a bar that is a search engine that takes me a search results page. I have to search for the address by hunting by selecting "page info" from the "Tools" tab.

No luck with fixes from the forums.

  • Go to "View > Toolbars" and check-mark "Menu Bar" with a click on it to make that permanent. See Restore the Menu bar in Firefox).
  • Make sure that you have the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
  • If items are missing then see if you can find them in the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window
  • If you see the missing item in the Customize window then drag it back from the Customize window onto one of the toolbars.
  • If, in "View > Toolbars > Customize", you do not see that item then click the "Restore Default Set" button

All those "bars" are checked in toolbars.

What I have is a search engine bar and not a URL bar. I put a URL address or IP address in it, and I get the results from a Google search.

Thanks for trying.

Cheers !

So, did you check the View > Toolbars > Customize window to see if you can find the URL bar in that window and drag it back on the Navigation toolbar?

Yep. All the toolbars are checked. In Customized Toolbars, there is no URL/Address?Location bar choice.

The localstore.rdf has been deleted as per your suggestion. Still no URL bar anywhere.

Puzzled.

Just to be sure that you found the Firefox Profile Folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Yep. the Profiles folder in Firefox is where I found the localstore.rdf file. I deleted it as per your suggestion. Still no URL bar.
