Regularly I cannot click on a link at the bottom of the screen because the new statusbar popup URL is blocking my mouse pointer. Usually the URL moves out of the way but this does not alway happen.

I'm working with Oracle application express and this tool has row of links at the bottom of the screen and this happens very often.

The easiest way is to use the Status-4-Evar add-on. With it you can choose to not display any of the status messages or URL links, or display them in the add-ons bar or location bar instead.

Thanks, it works. Another manual adjustment to FF to get it to work normally. It used to be such a nice browser. What happened?

No, you can't adjust new fx link-bar as you wish. To old behavior use fx 3.x series
