4-yr-old Dell Inspiron 1520 with a Synaptics touchpad, running XP. Just downloaded FF4 last night, now discovered that my scroll feature on the touchpad no longer works. This is very irritating. If no fix available, how to I go back to the previous version of FF?

Try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If it works correctly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Incidentally, I'd recommend you visit the Plugins Check page and update your plugins. You're potentially exposing your system to attack with some of the versions you have installed at the moment. Updating them may also resolve the problem with your touchpad.

In the event that the above steps don't resolve the issue for you, you can revert to the previous secure version which is 3.6.16 by following these steps.

  1. Go to Download Firefox v3.6.16 and download it to your desktop.
  2. Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to Mozilla Firefox and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).
  3. Then reboot and delete the folder called Mozilla Firefox at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
  4. Finally run the installation file you downloaded.

Thank you so much! I just started following all your steps, but don't know which thing worked. I think it was after I downloaded the newest version of Picassa. Does that make any sense?

At least, now my touchpad scroll feature seems to work. Thanks, again!
