You can try this software to see if it works. I haven't used it personally, so install it at your own risk:

gmaildefault works. To shusseina, AOL is not an option in the menu's. You can't set the mailclient to a webmail program using those techniques.

patjmc, I am glad the program works for you. Please click "SOLVED" so other users know there's a solution on this problem. Thank you.

On your desktop, you have an IE icon. Right click that and go to Properties. Go to the Programs tab and then change the E-mail option to AOL.

When you click a Mailto link, the operating system will launch AOL regardless of which browser you happen to be using.

I have figured out that Live Mail supports AOL and others. It will let you control all the different email accounts from one place and will make AOL act like "real" email with link forwarding, etc.

That's also an option.

On one computer AOL mail asked to register itself and I let it. It works there. On another I never got that prompt. I need to force AOL to register itself with Windows so it shows up in the mai client list in browser options etc like Firefox's Mailto setting. How does one force aol webmail to register itself?
