Being a glutton for punishment I tried to upgrade my FF. It sucks. I opened a pmr with IBM. Here are the results:

<snip> What you have stumbled across is an issue that has recently appeared. Firefox 4 is not a supported (at this time) version of browser to work with the HMC remotely.

We have created a request to development to get this repaired. The same issues are also in IE8 which is also unsupported for now. In IE8 there is a compatibility mode that can be used to circumvent the problems.

Our hope is that Mozilla will also release such a circumvention for the short term fix.

For now, you will need to go back to V3 if possible, or you can use IE7, both of which are currently supported. I don't have a timeline for when this issue would be fixed in any HMC release as it is more an issue related to the browser.

Hope this helps, let me know if there is anything else we can assist you with, or if we should close out the call.

Thanks for using IBM Support. </snip>

Thanks for posting those comments. Firefox has a "quirks" mode for better compatibility with old sites, but it doesn't have a user-switchable rendering engine or, as far as I know, a Firefox 3.6 compatibility mode.

One workaround might be to use the IE Tab* add-on to open the HMC site in IE within a Firefox tab. (* There seem to be more than one of these now.)

But if "sucks" refers to a lot of other issues, maybe you'd prefer to use 3.6 for a while.

To roll back:

First, make a backup of your computer for safekeeping. To back up Firefox, see Backing up your information.

Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older

Close Firefox 4, and uninstall it. Do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.

Then finally you can reinstall Firefox 3.6. Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, it should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.

Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!

myself was a FF user for last 12 yrs !! even i remember recommending ppl abt it...but FF 4 is a real PAIN IN THE APPROPRIATE PLACE....

it hogs memory...for simple functions (available by default in previous vers) ,now u have to install add-ons for them (like new tab button, FF4 either lets u have a new tab button OR the "+" button near opened tabs..but U CANT HAVE THEM BOTH SAME TIME!! WHAT THE.......

PC hangs/freezes almost everytime i ran FF 4 ..and for that i have lost valuable data..mind u, my machine config is not outdated. I have reverted back to previous vers FF 3.6...and am NOT UPDATING IT SOON....

ALL OF U FOLKS HAVIN PROBS WITH FF4 : easiest solution for all your probs -

1) get rid of FF4 and install the previous vers - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html after backing up - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information

OR

2) get an alternative browser

yes folks, the above solution will at least give u peace of mind and a more peaceful good night sleep

I've found what looks like a workaround. This is in the new FF6.0 and HMC V7R7.2.0, so I'd be interested to know if it works in other versions.

Grab the resize bar between the top and bottom panels, and drag it up until a scrollbar appears in the LPAR panel at the top (See pic#1 and pic#2 at http://imgur.com/a/vVAyw). Grab the (inner) scrollbar and wiggle it up and down a few times, then leave it at the bottom of the range, next to the last LPAR.

Now drag the resize bar back down again and you should be able to see all your LPARs including the last one. (pic #3)

This also works on the Servers page. It looks like you have to do it each time you change pages, but it's at least a workaround until it gets fixed.
