Hi I have used Firefox as my browser for the last couple of years but just in the last couple of weeks I am receiving the error "The configured proxy server is not responding".

Once I changed the Connection settings to check the box for "Auto detect proxy settings for this network" it worked again. I am just wondering what may have happened and is my proxy protection just as strong with this option. edit

I just got my new asus g73 i7 etc running DSL 12

FF4 is deathly slow loading pages (it was slow on my old AMD sempron machine and I blamed the antique processor)

I've searched for solutions including those outlined here

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_any_website#Error_loading_any_website

looked at various posts (including the reprimands for posting in the incorrect thread - apologies in advance) - would app a solution - I have avoided chrome for privacy reasons but am getting tempted

The previous setting was "use Ststem Proxy setting". Firefox will no longer open with this setting but auto detect works. I'm guessing auto detect works because it is not detecting any proxy at all.
