Will Firefox 5.0 run on the Pentium 3 processor which I have and if not can the new security and stability upgrade be applied to Fireox 4.0 please?
I have just received a notification that 'A security and stability update for Firefox is available: Firefox 5.0. It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox as soon as possible.' However, the system requirements indicate the need for a Pentium 4 processor or higher, capable of SSE2. Yet, my computer has a Pentium 3 processor. Will Firefox 5.0 run satisfactorily on a Pentium 3 processor? If not, can the security and stability upgrade please be applied to Firefox 4.0, which does work on my computer?

You could always try it out. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. If it doesn't then I recommend going to 3.6.18, which has the same security fixes as Firefox 5, because if you stay with 4, your security may be compromised.
No: * Pentium 4 or newer processor that supports SSE2
Thanks NicHelps for your suggestion. I didn't want to go back to a previous version which I was not so happy with, but was cautious about losing the use of Firefox by attempting to upgrade to version 5.0 - which apparently requires a higher spec than my system has available. As a result of the second reply below, however, I discovered that Firefox 4.0 also has the same higher-spec requirements as Firefox 5.0. So, since 4.0 has worked OK, I have now upgraded to 5.0 and this works OK, too. All I can assume is that despite the spec provided, the Pentium 3 installed in my Gateway 866 Performance System computer does have the required capability.
