Windows 7 on compaq laptop search engines are loaded but disappear upon closing firefox
the saved or managed search engines do not fix in the search box, search engines need to be reloaded each time of use. Once closed all search engines are erased.

Try to delete search.sqlite and search.json in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Thank you, tried it but it did not solve the problem.
Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
Are you using some kind of virtualization or sandbox software?
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Dear Cor-el, Thank you for your replies! I'm utilizing Avast, I believe that it does have a sandbox feature. (only upon request.) I will try the safe-mode and preferences fix to see if it will effectuate a fix. Again, appreciate your assistance and replies. aloha, lshapes
Dear Cor-el, Tried but all suggestions have not produced a favorable result. Running Default 7.0.1 on appearance themes. Still wipes out the saved search engines upon reboot. Even tried reloading Firefox. ????? Aloha, lshapes
If virtualization software is removing the files then you need to look at the settings of that program and disable virtualization (sand-box) temporarily every time you need to make such changes to make sure that you keep the changes.
Does that only happen with the default search engines that are stored in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) or also with new search engines that will be stored in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox Profile Folder?
Are you losing any other profile data?
Dear Cor-el, Tried to disable sandbox & load without result. This only happens to the search engines in the manage search engines. Thank you again for your suggestions and time. aloha, lshapes
