I am running ubuntu os and everytime I try and open firefox to connect to the internet it will not allow me to because firefox bin is still running even though firefox is not running. I have to restart my computer to be able to connect and if I log out of firefox, the bin is still running, this has only started to happen this week, is it due to an update that doesn't work properly and are you fixing it.

Yes it says it is running but not responding when I ask the computer to restart, I don't know how to stop it on Linux - ctrl/alt/Delete to stop it on windows but is there the same kind of thing on linux?

Thanks 007, I'll sort it out eventually. Waiting to see what happens today, tried a few things.

Thanks Remi76, that seems to have fixed it :)

Oh, the ctrl alt delete version of linux is : system/admin/system monitor

Or you can open a terminal box and use: "killall firefox" or what proces you want to kill.

Thanks that's good to know, the problem comes back so next time I'll try that, thanks again.

Well its a workaround till the proper bug-fix is issued, with restart of Firefox as well as computer shut-down firefox-bin is still prompted to be running again over here now.

After deleting the .parentlock file, firefox is running fine again.

It would be nice if there was a clean way to recover after a crash. Now we also have the bookmark database that is getting corrupt and needs to be cleaned up. I like the pop up bar explaining what to do to recover, but a command line option to go in your profile and remove lock files and recover the bookmark database would be nice...

I had this problem too. I have fixed it by removing Personas. Use the Default setting not an image. Also to restart Firefox without restarting Ubuntu go to System - Administration - System Monitor andclick on Firefox.bin then End Process. After that you can restart Firefox.

I have the same problem with Firefox 3.6.24. It happens every single time I close firefox. The process name on my system is firefox-bin, so "$ killall firefox-bin" is the command that I run to close the process.

I just disabled all of my addons and plugins and narrowed the problem down to Shockwave Flash 11.1 r102. Disabling the plugin stops the problem.

Ubuntu 10.04 Found I had the Icedtea java plugin and Sunjava6 plugin installed. Removed Icedtea (using synaptic or the software center, so it is removed completely.) and all is well again. Don
