When I search for something in the Firefox Help search box, I get results form all over the web (with sponsored results first) not just site specific answers. I have noticed this on several other web sites as well. It makes no difference if I just click on the arrow or on the search the site button. Is the search engine perhaps powered by some external server which now has decided to give off-site answers as well as site specific answers?

The spyware removers did not help. So I typed about:config in the URL bar and then searched for "conduit". I reset to default all values which containedconduit.com or conduit-services.com. Then everyone's search function returned to normal. Then I also reset all the "Community Toolbar" references all of which contained "conduit."

I hope someone stops these people.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

I think you're right. I now notice I am taken to searchcompletion.com which seems to be a rouge site. I will work on eliminating it and let you know what was successful. Thanks.

It's back! and it no longer shows in the about:config file. From what I read searchcompletion is some kind of rootkit. So I'm still working on it.
