I am getting urgent message to install Firefox update. I click OK. Software Update box appears indicating Downloading Update. Under the bar appears a message, "Connecting to the update server". This has gone on for hours w/o the update occurring. This has happened for the last few days - I finally just delete the Update box

Hi,

You can try to manually download the updated version and install: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

I faced this issue with Ubuntu. The problem was that the network settings were not proper (as to the place from where we tell Firefox etc to get connected so as to download the update)

In Ubuntu 10.04 check network settings under

System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager -> Settings -> Preferences -> Network

If above is not the case then check for Internet settings in general, it has to be network related issue (Firefox is not able to connect to the site form where it is trying to download the update). In Firefox check for Internet settings under

Edit -> Preferences -> Choose 'Advanced' tab -> choose 'Network' tab. Click on connection 'Settings...'.

Check that the proper option is selected and that there are no wrong values/IP addresses entered for the choice that is selected

Thanks, I changed from the default setting to "auto detect proxy settings for this network". I'll see if this helps.
