There is NO link, or icon on the toolbar to enable Java on www.local10.com Please tell me how to fix this, your page that tells me how does not apply. I am using Windows XP, could that be the reason? I can watch videos everyplace else. Please, please tell me how to fix this, as local 10 is my local news station and I need to be able to see their videos.

hello patti, resetting firefox shouldn't affect your bookmarks - probably you'll just have to enable the bookmarks toolbar to bring them back into sight. right-click somewhere on an empty section of the taskbar & make sure that the bookmarks tollbar is checked.

...back to the video-problem: maybe it's an issue with the current version of the flash player. what you could try is to go to the windows control panel / programs section & uninstall the adobe flash player 11 plugin.

afterwards go to www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html and install version 10.3 of the flash plugin which is still supported by adobe (you'll have to choose the EXE Installer for Windows Plugin-based browsers in the Flash Player 10.3.183.75 section).

hello pattilynn, we are all real people here as far as i'm aware ;-)

the videos at http://www.local10.com/news/video/-/1717252/-/7kdxr1/-/index.html all make use of the flash plugin to display - you won't need java for them. if you're having problems displaying them, please try to reset firefox and see if this can address the issue...

To avoid confusion:

Make sure that you do not block JavaScript.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions.

I really appreciate everyone's input. I reset Firefox, and all my bookmarks disappeared. I'm still not able to see any videos on www.local10.com I had no problems with that site until Firefox changed their protocol.

I'm within 2 months of being 70 years old...I don't consider myself to be dumb, but this has got me CRAZY!!! I like Firefox's principles, that's why I'm here, but, I do NOT want to give up local 10.

Nothing suggested has worked, BUT, in reality, I don't understand a lot of the stuff that you folks are telling me.

Phillip and EVERYONE who tried to help me...THANK YOU !!!!! I did everything that you all advised...I am now able to view www.local10.com videos. I couldn't get the bookmarks back, (I know that I mangled one of the recommended steps), but, I'll re-mark them as I need them. THANK YOU all, again. I'm going to be dangerous when I understand all of this stuff!!!

If you have an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop as the consequence of a reset the you should have a bookmarkbackups folder with JSON backups that you can use to restore (replace) the bookmarks.

If you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some of your data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and your current profile will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data).

It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be cautious to avoid carrying over the problem.
