For instance, linked in refuses to even give the option to default to the android linked in app. Same with Google+ etc. The webpage comes up asking if I want to install the various mobile apps, but then ends up defaulting to the webpage. tried removing Firefox defaults but nothing changes. only thing that stops me using as a daily driver.

Could sites be doing (or not doing) this based on the user agent? To test that hypothesis, you could install the Phony extension on your Firefox Mobile and masquerade as the stock Android browser.
