Does a keyboard shortcut exist or can I create it to activate the bookmarks dropdown menu (not "show all bookmarks") in Firefox 29 (currently nightly)?

The thing is, the combined "star and dropdown" toolbar button is really inconvenient to use with a mouse, I often mean to activate the dropdown and see my bookmarks, and instead wind up bookmarking the page.

Those two button are really distinct and the two buttons look quite different on Linux for me and show as individual buttons if I hover them (they have hover state).

Are you clicking the star?

Are you using a theme?

I do use a theme and they show as one button with two icons, so I really have to aim and hit to get the right one. My question though remains - is there a shortcut or can I set one? I use ctrl-b to bring up the sidebar for example. Thanks.

Yes, it is only one combined button with two clickable icons. The Bookmarks Menu button is a dropmarker with a special icon.
I don't know of a way to open the Bookmarks Menu button drop down list with a keyboard shortcut.

It's not identical because it will drop from the upper left of the screen, but you might have a keyboard shortcut to open the classic Bookmarks menu. On Windows, Alt+b will do it. (Alt is a global shortcut key for menu bars.) How about on your distribution of Linux?

Alt-b and ctrl-b (for sidebar) work. Is there a way/place to suggest a feature for Firefox, considering 29 is still in development? I'd suggest they include a shortcut for the bookmarks popup :)

You can submit ideas using Help > Submit Feedback but I'm not sure that will reach the UI design team in a way that stimulates any changes. Perhaps there is a mailing list or other place to start a discussion of the proposal?

I actually solved this by completely ignoring and disabling the Bookmarks menu button. Instead I put all of my bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar and then installed the extension, Hide BookmarksBar. - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hide-bookmarksbar

Hide BookmarksBar allows you to create a custom shortcut to hide and show the bookmarks toolbar which I prefer a toolbar layout over the menu anyway so this is perfect for me.

I customized the addon to use Ctrl+Shift+B as the shortcut so I can use Ctrl+B for the Bookmarks Sidebar and then the other for Hide BookmarksBar. This works great for me, maybe it will for you.

You can also add a button to your other toolbars to click instead of using the shortcut but I almos always use the shortcut even though I have the button there too. :)
