Have read all of the suggested article to no avail. Cannot using any combination of clicks, buttons etc, successfully insert an address from the Contacts/Address Book pane into the TO: field in an email message. I have to open the contact and then copy and paste the email address into the TO: field. Am I missing a setting???

How did you populate your Address Book? If it was imported from somewhere else, possibly via CSV file, then it may have data in inappropriate fields. It seems quite common for email addresses to be entered as nicknames when importing, and Thunderbird won't look there for email addresses.

I presume you have tried typing and autocomplete, and also F9 and the Contacts Sidebar? Are you trying to start from an open Address Book?

Thank you! Imported addresses via CSV and the fields were incorrect when looked at in depth, although they appeared OK in the Contacts pane.
