My Android asked me to verify my account by email, and i have done so and received a favorable response; however, my Android continues to ask for verification.

I am trying to sync my desktop with my Android phone. I have set up a Firefox account. The sync instructions on the desktop say I must enter codes into my Android. When I try to do so, the Android first asks me to verify the account by responding to an email. I have received three of these emails, responded to each, and received a response in each case indicating the verification was successful. However, my Android phone will nevertheless not move past the screen that requires verification.

hello coonrodc, there has been a new sync system introduced in firefox 29 - so from your description it sounds like you have created a new sync account on your android device - but it appears that on your desktop you are still on a old sync account (when it asks you to put in a 3x4 pairing code into another device).
in order to resolve that, please update firefox on desktop (and all other devices) to firefox 29 and proceed like described at: Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more

That sounded like a good idea, but when I followed the procedure to update Firefox on my desktop, I received a response saying I already have the latest version. My Android version was downloaded yesterday

can you check under firefox > help > about firefox if version 29 is installed? (at the time of submitting your question it looked like it was version 28 still) if so, you're already up to date and can unlink & connect to your newly created sync account.

I don't see "Firefox > help > about firefox" but I just installed Firefox (on my Android) a couple of days ago, so it surely is the current version

coonrodc:

To get philipps' request for the user agent/version of Firefox you're running please try this instead to get the version

  • Navigate to about: and copy/paste the last line that says Build identifier:

For example mine says:
Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0

Thanks, but when I click the Firefox tab at the top left of my screen and select Help, I do not see an option "About"

Hi coonrodc,

Sorry that you're seeing that annoying notification after you've verified. (We're planning to make Firefox wait a while, say 24 hours, before showing it to users in future.)

I think what's happening is that Firefox hasn't seen your account's status change. If we can get Firefox to sync, that should remove the notification. You can force a sync in a few ways. Just browsing with Firefox, and then waiting a while -- at most 24 hours -- should do it naturally. You can also go to Android Settings > Accounts > Firefox Accounts > [my account] and use the menu to "Force sync". Different Android versions make this more or less complicated; sorry.

Let me know if that works! The notification should get removed right away if it all works.
