I was just upgraded to 29.0.1 and I would like to adjust the size of the tabs. specifically, I would like to reduce the height of the tabs. Is there any way to customize the tab height and width?

You can look at the Classic Theme Restorer extension to restore some functionality that was lost with the arrival of the Australis style in Firefox 29.

You can check the settings of the CTR extension via its Options/Preferences button on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" page.

Been there, done all that. still looking for a way to reduce the overall size of the tabs. This isn't a big deal, just a kind of annoyance for me. It seems like there should be more flexibility in adjusting the appearance of the top of the page.

Hello,

You can use the userChrome.css:

Don't have that file on my computer or at least can't find it, nor do I know how to create or download this file, sorry?.

Go to your profile folder:

Create a new folder called chrome, open the notepad type the code to change the height, and save as userChrome.css

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

#TabsToolbar { height: 35px !important; }

So, I have created the chrome folder and have saved a text file named userChrome.css within the profile folder. Nothing has changed with the appearance of the Firefox tabs.? What do I do now?

BTW I do appreciate the help with this subject!

Contents of userChrome.css

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xu
#TabsToolbar { height: 35 px !important; }

Did you restart Firefox? Make sure you create in the current profile folder if you have two or more! Also try 35px instead 35 px

I don't know folks, tried all the suggestions, even did a restart on the computer, no joy. Firefox does seem to be a little slower now.? Again I appreciate all the help, Tom.

I just upgraded to Firefox 31, and my tabs have now gone to ~ double the height they were previously. I have modified my userChrome.css file based on the instructions here, and changed the height to 25px. It worked, but it cuts off the bottom of the tab including a portion of the tab title, while leaving all the blank space at the top of the tab. Any other option to restore my tabs to their former appearance? It really adds up when you use multi-row tabs and have 3 rows of tabs open on a 12" monitor.

I am running classic theme restorer already, but haven't found any option that seems to be related to tab height.

ETA: I just realized that modifying the userchrome.css file also seems to break multi-row tabs. Tabs still move to a 2nd row, but only the very top of the tabs on the 2nd row are visible. I removed the modification to userChrome and noticed two things

1) multi-row works again, and even better when tabs overflow into a second row the tab height shrinks back to the height is was on previous versions of Firefox. It's still too large when there is only one row showing however.

2) I no longer have an arrow to let me scroll through tab rows if I overflow past the 3 rows.
