I have the latest versions of Firefox and Xmarks on Windows 7 and OSX 10.6.8. Recently my Firefoxes have started to hang very often and under precise replicable conditions. The situation as follows:

Start Firefox with Xmarks add-on enabled. Memory usage starts to climb from 200MB. Please note no webpages are opened, we are still at FF Start Page. After ~30 seconds, memory usage reaches 700MB. Firefox permanently hangs soon after.

I have tried various older versions of Xmarks to no avail.

If this add-on is causing such a serious problem then it should be blacklisted immediately. Would appreciate if someone could please advise what possible steps I can take to remedy this, thank you.

You can try the xmarks forum to see if its a common problem as they may need to update the addon to fix the problem.

I have posted there as well at the same time but nobody has replied thus far.

Have you thought of a conflict with Adblock Plus or another of your addons as a problem.

You can disable all addons other than Xmarks and try from there.

I just tried your advice; disabled AdBlock and enabled Xmarks. The issue still persists. I think I should also mention that from launching FF right up until it hangs, CPU usage is 100%. On Windows, if you set process priority to Realtime in an attempt to let it work itself out quickly, the OS becomes unstable.

I can confirm the excessive amount of memory usage, here's both Firefox and Chrome with each 2 tabs opened..
