When I send an email it goes into my sent box and has the reply arrow next to the message but it seems that the recipient does not actually receive the email at all. This isn't just happening for one person, it is various people. I am in a position where I am at time sending three emails at once so when an error "dowstream server error, please check message and try again" pops up, I have no idea to which email it is referring (as all of them say sent).

Please help!

please contact your mail provider about this deficiency in their SMTP servers error reporting. As the error originates with your mail provider, Thunderbird is only the messenger and can offer no more than it is given!
