Fully up to date Firefox and Shockwave flash. The Weather Channel videos result in a black screen with no options but all the other websites I have tried seem to work fine.

Chosen solution

Just for everyone's information ..... The problem turns out to be with Weather.com and Ad Block Plus. Weather.com has started adding commercials to the beginning of their videos so Ad Block Plus blocks them as it is supposed to.. The only way around this is to disable Ad Block Plus on the Weather.com website.

Please ensure that Adobe Flashplayer is allowed to run on the Weather Channel. To do so, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Weather Channel
  2. Click the block icon in the address bar
  3. Click allow and remember from the drop-down menu

This should fix the issue.

OK .... i found the icon you were talking about. It says "Adobe Flash is enabled on Weather.com".

I thought perhaps this might have been caused by an update to Firefox or an update to my AV software (Kaspersky) but apparently that is not the problem. I dug out a notebook that I don't use very often which is still running older versions of both Firefox (33.0) and Kaspersky (2014). It also has the same problem. I also found that the Weather.com videos display normally in IE on all of these PCs.

I checked it out for myself and I appear to be having the same issue that you are having. It may be caused by some incompatibility on Firefox. Please file a bug report on Bugzilla so our team of developers can investigate and repair the issue.

I filed a Bugzilla report as you requested. I thought it was just me for a while. Thanks for your help.

No problem. It could be an issue on our end or on Weather.com's end, but either way, our development team will certainly look into it.

Thanks for contacting the Mozilla support team. Happy holidays!

I have disabled AdBlock Plus to no avail. As I search the problem further, I see it has been around for years. Too bad....
