new password on gmail gives error messages and doesn't recieve but sends anyway, even though that also gets an error message....what's going on?

error message is invaild credentials (failure) and it asks me to retry with my new password. this even happened when i tried to send an email to myself - i got the error message, but a quick check of my online email saw that the message HAD been sent.... weird, huh?
