When I click on the Firefox icon, the pop up window prompting enter master password appears, if enter nothing and hit ok, or cancel, the browser loads anyway?? What's the point of a master password protection if a person can just click ok/cancel to load anyway? Please advise on this issue.

The Master Password isn't for preventing Firefox from being used. It is for preventing Passwords from being autocompleted without inserting the Master Password.

If you use Sync then that will explain why Firefox asks for the Master Password because the credential for Sync are stored in the Password Manager. The MP is used to add an extra level on encryption to storing the names and passwords to the logins.json file.
