I am a basic PC user in that I know more or less how to keep it operational but that's it. Firefox just wont open anymore (Windows 7 64bit) I have tried reinstalling it 3 times and it doesn't work. It wont open, I just get a blank page which is totally unresponsive and I have to go to task manager to close it. I gave up trying 3 weeks ago and switched to Chrome but now I got a message flashed up that says that Chrome is soon not going to support watching TV and that's mainly what I use it for as I do everything else on my Tab now. I will not use IE as I can't stand the constant stream of interruptions so what do I do now, throw my laptop in the bin?!

I don't understand programming instructions, I just want a program that will fix itself and previously the auto-updates in Firefox have done this by themselves.

For now I have just given up. If a simple fix is not forthcoming, my long standing (since Firefox began more or less) relationship with Mozilla will end. Please sort it out.

I should have mentioned that I did try to reinstall again before posting this and that prior to the complete failure to open started, Firefox was refusing to run the newest flashplayer - most annoying.

Lets start with this;

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

While in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Network. Look for Configure How Firefox Connects and press the Settings button. If you are using a proxy, make sure those settings are correct. If there is no proxy, first use No Proxy. If there is a problem, then try System Proxy.

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}
