I'll be in the middle of something on a website and suddenly I get a page that says this site cannot be trusted and I cannot access it. These are trusted sites!
One of these that I get kicked out of for this reason is my work email and it's a microsoft email. The other is a site I visit to send email to someone in prison. Then this renders my computer unusable to me for these things. I need someone to speak in English and guide me as I don't know or understand all the computer lingo that is used.

I should start by saying that Firefox is not determining whether or not the site can be trusted, but only whether the secure certificate the site is presenting can be trusted.
You definitely should not get this error in the middle of a session when you are already working on a site. While email sites generally makes requests in the background to check for new mail, etc., it is very odd for a request that worked with the server a few minutes ago to suddenly no longer work.
If you close Firefox and start it back up and try again, does that help, or what do you normally do in this situation?
One possible explanation is that your connection to the site changed in some manner while you were using it. For example, let's say hypothetically that you were accessing a site through a work VPN that uses a proxy, and then the VPN goes down and the next request is made on a direct connection. In that case, Firefox might detect the difference and raise an objection. But I have no idea whether you intentionally or unintentionally use any proxy services or other indirect connection methods (e.g., filtering through security software, private VPN, TOR, etc.).
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
