Why does firefox keep "not responding" and I have to use task manager to quit?

I will be playing a game on facebook, and firefox will stop working. A message came up about a "plugin container" problem, if that helps. Also, a message for a firefox update. I agreed to let it update and I ended up with a virus (Trojan Gen3 to be exact). I am a little leery about this brower after that happened.

Hello,

Sorry to hear that you are having a problem.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem still persists. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).

(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)

If Firefox is open, you can restart in [[Firefox Safe Mode|https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode]] Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item:

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
