Hello, using thunderbird on windows 10. When I send a message, a pop up message appears:

           Status: connected to smtpauth.earthlink.net
            Progress:--------------------------------------------- (about 100%)

This message stays on the screen until the following error message appears:

Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtpauth.earthlink.net was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again.

I turned malwarebytes program off. I am running Immunet 3 anti spyware. Running Thunderbird 38.5.

I contacted Earthlink Support. A rep looked at my settings and indicated they were OK and ask me to contact e-mail client support.

This problem appeared about a day or so ago. Previously, everything was OK. I reinstalled Thunderbird but the problem persists.

Regards, Harold Webster

Chosen solution

I'd be surprised if 'Authentication method' 'Encrypted password' is correct. Confirm the correct server settings with your email provider. Or just try 'Normal password'. If Earthlink don't support SSL/TLS encryption I'd look for a new email provider.

Hello, a representative of Earthlink Support examined my settings and said they were OK. According to the Earthlink documentation on setting up a Thunderbird client, secure connection = none and username/password are recommended.

Hello, I changed my Earthlink connection to use IMAP instead of POP and it works OK. I don't know why the POP settings did not work.
