Emails download but do not appear in inbox since update to 38.6

Since upgrade to 38.6 on mac running 10.10.5 emails download normally but only display by restarting Tbird. When curser is put on inbox folder a list of downloaded emails appear but do not show in inbox window. I have found that if I go to another folder and then back to inbox they will appear. This is the first time I have had a problem with Tbird.

have you tried scrolling the list? I find occasionally that I have to scroll the new mail into view for some reason.

Scrolling was the first thing I tried. Next I clicked on the inbox because it showed a list of emails. When that didn't work, I shut down Tbird and restarted the computer. The missing emails appeared but when new ones downloaded they failed to appear. I had to check an old email in another folder and when I went back to the inbox the missing emails appeared.

The other thing I remembered is when Tbird updated, it started to open and then shut down. When I restarted I had this problem.
