I couldn't open attachment links so I changed the config links by following the help guide. Now I created a bigger problem. I cannot open program anymore even after reinstalling. I need to fix that and then still learn how to open the attachments when sent in link form.

what exactly did you do?

Hi Matt. Well, I sometimes get attachments that are in http form or link form. In the past, in order to enable them, I changed some settings, even though it wasn't perfect, it worked well. My preference would have been that the link is highlighted in blue, ready to click and open. Anyway, I got a new computer and attempted to make it work but instead messed it up. This is the guide I followed: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hyperlinks-in-messages-not-working

The section that reads "Check for an incorrect preference." I went on to place true several links that were similar in nature to the ones it recommends because I did not find the one it refers to.

Is there any mail in Thunderbird you want to keep that would not be downloaded from the server if we gave you a fresh start?

more options

No. We use gmail so everything is backed up on that server. However, I've tried to delete and reinstall and it seems that it doesn't delete fully because as soon as I reinstall, it gives me the same crash message. I would need to completely remove it and I don't know how other than using the uninstall from the control panel.

two things....

1. what is the crash message?

2. Make sure Thunderbird is closed + R In the run box type %appdata% and press enter Delete the Thunderbird folder shown in Windows Explorer

Try again with Thunerbird

I'm not in front of that computer now but I will try it tomorrow. The message says it has crashed and cannot open. I'll try on snap a shot of it if step 2 doesn't work. I'll keep you posted. Thanks!

Mat, it worked very well! I was able to scrap it and reinstall it. Now, the original issue about the hyperlink attachments...how do I get that to work and able to open it as a link?

that is almost always either the browser is not actually the default browser.

Open firefox and from the toolbar then options

in the general tab select the option to check if Firefox is the default browser. Restart Firefox.

Do you have anti virus?

I didn't download firefox, only thunderbird. I guess I should download it. And I do have the antivirus that comes with the computer, the microsoft one.

Ok I am confused, the web site says you are using a MAC, but obviously you are having no issues with the instructions and now you say you have what came with the computer.

Goes to every web site you connect to. Not just this one. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_agent#Format_for_human-operated_web_browsers

And I'm a little lost as to where you want me to post the troubleshooting information and why.

more options

you paste it into one of these little text boxes. Why? No reason at all. I was trying to work out what was going on with the operating system thing. The prefs in Thunderbird for HTTP do not show in the troubleshooting information unfortunately.

So do you recommend that I download and use firefox then?

First I think you should try Thunderbird safe mode.

Hold shift while starting and continue in safe mode when prompted to see if it is an add-on causing issues.

Matt, I've been out of pocket for a few days. I managed to get an add-on that made the links work. Thank you for all your help!

what add-on? I only learn be what other tell me really.
