Recent update of Firefox to 53 has stopped Trusteer Rapport from working in browser. Uninstalled and reinstalled program for Firefox from Trusteer web site. Didn't fix issue. Still not working. Perhaps Trusteer needs to update program on their end. They just did this for Firefox 52. Better yet, Firefox should inform outside software add-ons that they are coming out with a new version so adjustments can be made.

Thanks for response you did make me chuckle and I did smile for the rest of the day. Here's hoping IBM get it sorted soon! Cheers!

IBM trusteer rapport never works with new firefox updates. Really poor from Firefox as UK banks insist on us using this s/ware for secuity. When will it be fixed

The Release dates for Firefox are well publicised, and pre release versions of Firefox are available for anyone to test and try out. There is no reason I can see why Trusteer Rapport can not be fixed and updated to coincide with the Firefox Releases.

My UK banking has always worked OK without having to use Trusteer Rapport. It appears banking transactions can easily be completed without needing Trusteer Rapport.

Complain to your Bank that Trusteer Rapport keeps breaking when used on Firefox.

Presumably you will be using a Windows computer, you could use Edge when you need to make banking transactions assuming Trusteer Rapport works with Edge.

I'm not in the UK, but my credit union bank requires Trusteer in California. Not sure why Trusteer has such a problem working in Firefox whenever it is updated.

Hi   !
IBM doesn't support firefox 53 yet.   Maybe you could try to contact their support and ask when this might change:

Unfortunately things may well get worse.

Firefox has been releasing new versions about every size weeks for a while now. At present the new software spends about 6 weeks in an alpha version (Nightly) 6 weeks in a 2nd Alpha (Developer edition Nee Aurora) 6weeks in a Beta before finally moving to the Release.

The second alpha stage is soon to be removed from the cycle. If IBM struggles already now it may struggle even more soon.

You are so right   !   Hence my suggestion to contact their support. About time IBM started   listening   to their customers and finally
do   something. This has been a real pain for so long now.

I have been chatting to IBM Trusteer (uk) on line again today. They have said can't give a definite resolution date yet. So bad. This happens every time we have an update, and they keep suggesting internet explorer which I keep telling them I do not want to use. I am going to contact my bank now to see if they can do anything.

Good for you   !!!   Very wise decision   ! If more people did that, then maybe the bank would stop forcing their clients to use this pain in the toosh.

Have been chatting to my UK Bank on line and they have told me to un-install IBM Trusteer Support and use another security software until problem is fixed? They will try their end. I feel I've drawn a blank really as whatever happens I will have to be patient (not one of my good points) until IBM fix it again! I said I have other security software on my computer as well and it's your bank that want me to use the software! Anyway will try and be patient ha ha!

'Join the club   -   I know exactly what you mean   !
Hey,  you mentioned that you have other security software on your system : would this be something like Windows Defender  ? That, plus the fact that you're using the safest browser on the planet : you're in Fort Knox   !

I'm thinking of chucking all technology at the moment. What with IBM, facebook got a problem on android phones. my mobile front door alarm decided to play up again- I'm having a bad day with technology ugh... But must keep smiling ...

That's the spirit   ! Not always easy, though, cause life in general can be a real pain. Try to do something you love for the rest of today, and who knows : maybe the sun will shine again for you tomorrow   (preferably both literally as well as figuratively)   ......

A question - why is Firefox updated so frequently?

Because of security glitches?

Because of new security threats?

Because developers feel it must keep changing?

Hi fedup101,

You would be better starting a new question on your new subject. If you want a discussion or replies please start your own question. (It may however be decided the subject is out of the scope of this forum - we do not discuss development issues here). If you have a problem caused by a Firefox change & are looking for a solution or workaround that would be on topic. Meanwhile some quick comments:

I guess you understand the problem and it is because of all three of those.

Security glitches or security vulnerabilities need to be fixed quickly and can result in a danger of information loss, identity theft, or plain and simple fraud and crime including loss or real money.

Some of those changes and threats are external to Firefox. Sometimes Firefox changes may mitigate problems. Other times nothing effectively can be done. Deprecating plugin use may greatly increase security. See also:

As I understand it Firefox needs to change for two main reasons

  1. Fixing problems - especially security issues
  2. Improving things. -no point in standing still,

alternative browsers also improve. Standards, & other software change and improve.

  • Fixing problems caused because of previous changes !

These continuous updates and the problem with Trusteer are taking the shine off FF. I have been using it for years and have always thought it very good but if FF for its own reasons makes "improvements" which disable my bank's security protection it is failing.

I suggest that these so-called improvements are delayed until the "improvers" know the software is compatible. Or, if they must release these "improvements" give users a choice about migrating to the "improvement" or not.

I agree with Tregarth and also raise the question how much liaison there is between Firefox and security software companies.

Do Firefox actively liaise with companies, letting them know what changes are being made, or is it up to the security companies to keep checking as new versions are released?

This does not seem to be right.

FireFox has "improved" its software which stops Trusteer working. Surely since FF has caused the problem it is up to FF to find a solution.

Why should IBM be expected to repair a fault in FF which has stopped IBM's software running?
